The country’s power generator EGENCO has announced a national black out as it has switched off its main power stations Nkula and Tedzani
In mobile communication to Malawians the company said it has been forced to shut down the two power stations due to the effects of cyclone freddy.
“We would like to inform the general public that due to debris that is accumulating near our machines we have switched off power generation at Nkula and Tedzani power stations,” said EGENCO in a late night mobile message.
Most parts of the Southern Region have had no power for days and the cyclone has damaged power lines.
