A 12 year girl from Ganiza village in Traditional Authority Kapichi area in Thyolo was raped by unknown men and strangled to death.
The horrific crime had shocked people in the area as the body was discovered near namatete river banks in the area.
The girl was returning home on Monday afternoon, which was a public holiday after part Time lessons.
She was in standard 8 at Ntapanyama Primary school in the area.
Police said her legs and arms were tied and was raped before being strangled.
