President Lazarus Chakwera and former President Peter Mutharika joined thousands of Muslims in Lilongwe and Mangochi to celebrate the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.
The two politicians are Christians.
President Chakwera and first Lady Monica were guests at Area 2 in Lilongwe where he donned white Arabic gown while Mutharika joined the faithful in Mangochi.
Sheikh Jafaar Kawinga said Malawians were blessed to have a leader of Chakweras calibre saying every leader is chosen for a purpose.
The festive marks an end to 30 days of fast which is a very important calender month as Muslims pray to God for mercy.
Ramadan is a period of fasting and spiritual growth and is one of the five “pillars of Islam” – the others being the declaration of faith, daily prayer, alms-giving and the pilgrimage to Mecca.
