The High Court in Blantyre on Wednesday handed out a 30 months sentence to Mlenga Mvula who used to be spokesperson for the Malawi Judiciary.
Judge Slyvester Kalembera found Mvula guilty on charges of soliciting money and opportunities by pretence.
Mvula who once served a personal assistant to a cabinet minister and worked at the Department of Information was arrested in 2017 by the Anti Corruption Bureau.
He had allegedly solicited K10.5 million to influence the outcome of the case between the Reverend Jawati and United Methodist Church.
He was arrested alongside Pastor Daniel Mhone who was also convicted but granted a suspended sentence.
Mvula was for soliciting the money purportedly for the Attorney General’s office and High Court judges.
