Love triangle gone wrong, premeditated murder or a wannabe Mafia? Lester Maganga, Special Assistant to the Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu has spent the weekend in Police cells suspected to have had a hand in the death of Allan Wittika.
Police have officially confirmed the arrest.
The body of Wittika, a sales Manager at beverage giant Cocacola, was found in his car parked near Gogo Jenera Junction near Bwandilo at Area 15 Township, in Lilongwe early hours of Wednesday September 20, 2023.
The Investigator Magazine can reveal that his body had a gunshot wound, showing that he was shot through the mouth and that he had scratches and signs of struggle with his killer.
Maganga, who served as a Chief Security officer for the Minister’s private security firm before his recruitment into Government was arrested at his house in Blantyre after a Police Search.
Olivia Nkhono- the girl at the centre of it all
A lady identified as Olivia Nkhono who is said to be working in Blantyre, apparently was in a relationship with Maganga for a long time and the man invested alot into the relationship.
“Maganga bought her a red Mazda verisa and in later she started dating Wittika. That is when Witika started getting threats,” our source close to the investigations told us.
Another friend of Wittika said the deceased was planning to leave Malawi for the USA with Olive and this might have been one of the reasons he was killed for snatching the woman.
The lady was among those questioned by Police in a month long investigation after the murder that shook the Capital city and the whole country.
“She offered to return the vehicle,” her friend in Blantyre claims. But Maganga did not relent. He pursued threatening Wittika.
The killing, the dumping of the body
Maganga, on 20 September 2023 was said to have been texting other people and a day earlier he was texting Wittika.
The exact time of death is not known, but two theories are that he was attacked inside his house and taken out, or he was attacked at the entrance of his house like hijacked, killed after struggle and dumped.
“There are signs of struggle with whoever murdered him. The eye witness version that someone with gloves might have come out of the car shows that the killing well planned,” said our source.
His body was left in the back seat of the vehicle and passerbys notice it before calling Police.
Police questioned both Olivia and Wittikas house servant. There are claims he has a child with Olivia.
He was killed 20 days shy of his 38th birthday as he was born on 10th October 1985.
Police follow gun, family clues
The Criminal Investigation Department of Malawi Police pursued a family fued theory which social media rumours claimed he had been killed over childrens custody .
“This was to distract our investigations. The Police professionals went to tie all the small details. It pointed at someone who was very blunt about his intentions,” said a source in the Police Service.
There are unconfirmed allegations that the gun used in Allan Wittika murder was recovered during the search at a house in Blantyre.
The gun is unlicensed, according to Police officers.
Maganga is said to have admitted to Police questioning him that he had threatened Wittika but denies killing him or ordering his death.
Maganga is expected to appear in Court on Monday.
According to the Minister’s close associates, the Minister will allow Police to do their job and had insisted it is a private matter between Maganga and the Police.
