K5bn toll gate collections haunt Transport Minister

Transport Minister Jacob Hara was on Tuesday at pains to explain to parliamentarians as to why the roads across the country including the main Lilongwe-Blantyre road is full of potholes despite toll fees hitting K5bn.

Government started collecting toll fees on two places along the Blantyre- Lilongwe road and recently it was announced the collections had hit K5 billion.

Mulanje Bale MP Victor Musowa said it did not make sense that the road was in very bad state while K5 billion had been collected from road users.

He described the development as worrisome.

“We will work on the roads, we understand that they are in bad shape and we will fix them” said Hara, who did not say when works will begin.

Roads across the country are now in dilapidated state with the Lilongwe Kasungu road almost wiped out.
