Fire has gutted down Office of the Presidents Government Contracting Unit a day after Lawyers for Fryson Chodzi and The Investigator Magazine asked for contracts and documentation related to Salima- Lilongwe Waterways.
The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) is also investigating the GCU on different matters, making the fire a suspect to hide evidence.
Mr Chodzi of Forum for National Development (FND) wants all documentation related to the project and approvals including from GCU that would have necessitated Government to bring a bill to seek loan authorisation in Parliament.
The Investigator Magazine has submitted request for copies of contracts in the matter under the Access to Information Act.
The fire which started at 3am, which is unusual time as government offices are closed is the second one to damage the building and will raise eyebrows as to how a second fire can happen in less than 10 years.
We will publish list of documents being sought in the Salima Lilongwe Water Project case at 12 noon today.
