Sean Kampondeni ‘removed’- State House

President Lazarus Chakwera removed his son-in-law Sean Kampondeni as Director of Communications, State House said in a statement on Saturday.

Kampondeni who announced during a media briefing that he was stepping aside created an impression that he had resigned from the post.

In unusual press release from State House Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda announcing Kent Mphepo as new Director of Communications, he says Kampondeni did not step aside.

State House Press Release

“The general public is hereby informed that His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi has removed Mr Sean Kampondeni as State House Director of Communications and has appointed Mr Kent Mphepo as his replacement,” Kasunda says.

Kasunda says Kampondeni will continue to be the Presidents Executive Assistant and Speech Writer.

State House staff told The Investigator they do not expect Kampondeni to survive the rest of the term as there are emerging issues that have strained  his relationship with the father-in-law.

Mphepo has been an ardent MCP supporter and he is well known in defending government in radio programmes including the sacking of ACB Director General Martha  Chizuma.
