…tells off Mphepo over appointments

All but one Central Executive Members of the erstwhile ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) this week flexed their muscles telling the party’s powerful administrative Secretary Francis’ Mphepo he had no powers to make a National Governing Council appointments.
The Central Executive Committee is expected to meet on Wednesday the 25th of January 2023 where fireworks are expected as the party officials gear up for a national convention this year.
All DPP Vice Presidents Kondwani Nankhumwa (South) Bright Msaka (East) Zeria Chakale (Centre) and Goodall Gondwe (North) signed the letter to Mphepo dated January 23, 2023.
Chakale later withdrew her letter saying she was appointed in the same way and wanted to follow the party principles.
Letters signed by Mphepo purportedly circulated om social media appointing Ephraim Mganda Chiume and Thom Kamangira to positions in the National Governing Council.
“You are aware that the Central Executive Committee did not meet make these appointments and that no other structure of the DPP has powers to make these appointments,” reads part of the letter.
The letter demands that Mphepo withdraw the letters within 24 hours.
Mphepo did not answer our questions but Msaka confirmed being one of the authors of the letter.
Mphepo who is a relation to the Mutharika has been accused of having so much influence on the party President and causing confusion within the party structures.
This is the first time all DPP senior officials have been united to flex their muscles.
DPP convention is expected to take place in summer of this year at the end of five year term of Mutharika and the NGC.
