I was kidding, Billy Gama tells Chakwera

I was only joking when I told the President that I wanted to be a director at the MACRA (Malawi Communications Authority ), CCAP Blantyre Synod Secretary  General Billy Gama has told Zodiak  Radio Station.

The station reported today that the cleric and has turned down his appointment as a board director of the Lilongwe Water Board as he would not be able to discharge  its duties. 

Gama once chaired the Lilongwe Water Board.

The radio quoted Gama saying it was just a joke, a statement he made on 3 November, 2022 in Blantyre where President Lazarus Chakwera was opening the HHI School of Excellence that he wished he could serve at the MACRA Board.

“Blantyre Synod has a radio station and it could be a conflict of interest for me to be a board chairperson of MACRA,” the radio quoted Gama. Some UTM official notably Director of Research Catherine Mzumara and Khwesi Msusa have also reportedly turned down appointments at Lilongwe Water  Board and National Digital Broadcasting Network respectively.

Another prominent Malawian based in the UK Dr Thandi Hara Msulira who came into limelight  when she co-led the 2021 Citizens Initiative Against Covid which raised K200 million, also turned down her appointment to serve in the Malawi Health  Sciences Board.
