People of Walamba village in TA Kyungu are in Karonga were shocked on Tuesday to see Police and medical personnel descend on their village to claim a dead body they had mistakenly collected from the district morgue.
Eron Msiska who hailed from the village died from cholera and died on Monday and his remains were taken to the mortuary.
A year-old baby Blessings Mbewe from nearby Mwambetania village also died in the same ward on Tuesday.
The official hospital report indicate the bodies were wrapped in plastics and kept in a special area of the mortuary.
Relatives of Msiska came to collect the body and whilst they put it in coffin, they also picked the wrapped baby’s remains mistaking it for clothes belonging to the deceased. Cholera cases are normally buried in closed casket. The people at Walamba buried the two bodies together.
The incident was discovered when relatives of Mbewe wanted to collect the body.
Police, Medical services personnel went to Walamba village and with assistance of the Chiefs and locals retrieved the body.
