.…Publicity Secretary dumps Chakwera
Call it a day of resignations. Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Publicity Secretary and advisor to President Lazarus Chakwera, Reverend Maurice Munthali has dumped the party.
Reports also indicate Chakweras Director of Communications and Executive Assistant Sean Kampondeni has resigned.
Munthali a former fiery cleric confirmed to The Investigator Magazine that he has decided to resign from his party and government positions as it has failed to provide leadership it promised to Malawians and is corrupt.
“I am acutely troubled in my conscience in light of the lofty promises we made to the people of Malawi including the hopes entrenched in our own members, as weighed against the myriad of government issues.
“As leading governing party in the Tonse Alliance we have not hithherto provided the type of leadership that would meet the hopes of Malawians for a better life,” said Reverend Munthali.
The letter addressed to Secretary General of MCP adds that as a man of faith he could not find peace to defend an image of that does not represent what it promised.
In a memorandum to President Chakwera resigning his role as Peace, Unity and National Reconciliation advisor he was blunt. Corruption.
“I have deeply and prayerfully reflected on my official role and personal participation in the prevailing governance atmosphere marred by persistent corruption allegations and related scandals. I am sapiently troubled to continue,” he said.
Munthali is a second National Executive member to resign after Emmanuel Yongo Mwanyongo who resigned in February.
Chakwera is facing internal rebellion that could see him loose his seat at a party convention.
Meanwhile Chakweras son-in-law whole had two roles as Director of Communications and Executive Assistant Sean Kampondeni was also reported to have resigned. We could not independently confirm this.
