The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) says it will appeal a suspended sentence given to former deputy Chief Executive Officer for National Food Rerseve Agency (NFRA) Gerlad Viola and his associate.
Viola was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for abuse of office contrary to Section 25 B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act whilst businessman Chrispin Chingola recieved similar years for influencing public officer to misuse public office under section 25B (2).
Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba suspended the sentence to two years which infruiritated Malawians.
The ACB has said it will appeal against a sentence.
Viola was arrested when he forged Local Purchase Orders worth K4bn that would have enabled Chingola supply the NFRA with maize.
He is former Press Secretary to fourth republican President Peter Mutharika.
