As tobacco season opens this month, Government has appointed Dr Godfrey Chapola as the new chairperson of the Tobacco Commission.
Chapola served as Chief Executive Officer for the Tobacco Commission predecessor Tobacco Control Commission.
He joined politics when in 2014 when UDF presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi appointed him his running mate.
Boards are political appointees it could not be immediately established as to whether Chapola has joined the MCP or Atupele Muluzi is moving to align with the ruling party.
Comptroller of Statutory Corporations Peter Simbani, has confirmed the appointment to Zodiak Online, but said there were no reasons for the change.
Michael Nyirenda who was chairing the TC board, has now been moved to TEVETA board as a mere member, reported the radio.
