Good neighbours, Zambia has become the first African nation to assist Malawi to mitigate the impact of cyclone Freddy.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has sent a plane from the Zambian Defence Force with assorted relief items as part of its contribution to relief efforts.

“To Malawians, we are with you during this tragedy,” Zambian Leader is quoted to have said in Lusaka.

The plane carried 5 tons of the 100 metric tons of maize Zambia has donated. The rest of maize has already left Chipata on Friday morning.

Other items donated by Zambia include 300 tents, 300 blankets, 300 mosquito nets, 1000 dignity kits and other such as beans and other times.

Malawians on social media have praised the Zambian people for their kind gesture.
